Becky sharp is a beautiful and headstrong girl who is determined to work her way into British society. Working through contacts made by her friend at school, Becky finds a man to love, Rawdon Crawley. However, war breaks out and Rawdon must go fight. When he finds Becky in the arms of another man, he angrily dismisses her. Alone and with no money, Becky is forced to sing in cabarets in order to live. Will Becky s resilience pay off so she can once again live among those in high society?
Becky Sharp is the movie version of the play by the same name that was based on the novel Vanity Fair . The film won an award for Best color Film at the Venice Film Festival. Leading lady, Miriam Hopkins, was nominated for an Acadmeny Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Also starring are Alan Mowbray as Rawdon and Frances Dee and Amelia Sedley, Becky s friend from school.
